Blues and a little Steinway Jazz

Last weekend was River Roots Live – and I’ll have an extensive post about that tremendous event soon. But there were other happenings in the QC last week – so here are a few tidbits.

Monday evening, The Muddy Waters hosted The Golden State – Lone Star Revue. The experience of these four old-school Blues musicians creates a very long list of well-known blues bands from all over the country.

British Blues artist Bex Marshall blew into the Quad-Cities Tuesday night and wowed the crowd at The Muddy Waters. This little lady is loaded with talent – as I watched her play, I couldn’t help but think of Eric Sardinas. Their playing style is similar. Marshall’s lyrics however, were very different from Sardinas’ lyrics. Hers are often playful and poke fun at life.

One more evening at The Muddy Waters. Friday night, The Mississippi Misfits held their own against a whole lot of other events, including River Roots Live. I stopped by to check in on them during their second set, and though I have seen them draw a larger crowd, I have seen fewer people in the back room at Muddy’s. Those who didn’t make it out to The Muddy Waters missed out, as the Mississippi Misfits aren’t expected back there until sometime in October.

Sunday was the 3rd Sunday of the month, which meant it was time for 3rd Sunday Jazz at the Redstone Room. West Music sponsored BK Davis, Steinway Artist, as the RME and West Music partner in a fundraiser to put a Steinway Grand Piano at the River Music Experience. Check out the RME Website for information on how you can help bring a Steinway to the RME.  The Steinway sounds amazing in the Redstone Room, by the way.

BK Davis is a Steinway artist-in-residence, and the show was not strictly a jazz concert. Davis played and sang a good number of old standards, as well as some show tunes. There was a little blues as well. Davis brought his son on stage to provide some visual entertainment, dancing to some of the songs Davis played.
