So Much Live Music So Little Time

It was another whirlwind weekend in the Quad Cities live music scene. From a CD release party at a popular local venue to a benefit jam, from rock, to blues to country, the QC area has so much music to offer! Check it out...

Local band CD release parties don’t happen every day, but when a band from out of town decides to hold their CD release at a local venue, it really is a rare occasion. Friday night, Dan Hubbard and the Humadors celebrated the release of Dan’s CD at the Redstone Room. Dan’s music is an Americana mix, with some rock and blues and a touch of country. The CD is very obviously dedicated to his family, including occasional tidbits and sound-bites from the children.

The Busted Chandeliers opened the Redstone Room show for Hubbard. Their sound was the perfect complement to the Humadors. Keep an eye on these ladies – they are going places!

Meanwhile, in Bettendorf, The Lizzie Neil Band was rocking the Muddy Waters with some wailing blues vocals.

And the Candymakers were spotted at 11th Street Precinct playing their blend of blues and funk. At 1 AM the Precinct was still jam-packed and hoppin’.

On a mellow note, Danika Holmes and Jeb Hart were mixing up some country, easy rock and blues for a happy bunch at the Grape Life Saturday night.

Saturday 1st Impression went for a record longest first set at The Hawkeye. It appeared Becky Anson was going for a no-holds-barred no-break night to celebrate her birthday, but the party goers would have no part of that. They forced a break at around two hours and ten minutes. The Hawkeye was packed and jammin’ right up to the end of the night.

Sunday afternoon there was a benefit show at The Muddy Waters, which brought out a handful of musicians to assist. Spotted on the stage at Sunday’s show were Retro Ron, SillyC Cecali and Alex “Slack Man”, along with John O’Meara, Don Stewart, Tom Zick and Ren Edstrand.

Rozztox is known in the QC for their “original only” music requirement. Sunday evening’s bands were no exception to that. Caroline Smith showed us that three properly matched female vocalists can transcend earthly bounds. The entire band was extremely well matched, and adjusted their dynamics nicely to the small room.

Sunday’s headline act You Me and Apollo rocked the room in a strong contrast to the ethereal tone set by the opener.
