I Heard This Before

You never know where I might turn up...

There are a few bands on my “to see” list that you might not expect to find there. Friday night presented an opportunity to see one of them – as well as a bonus band. I arrived at RIBCO about halfway through A Hill to Die Upon’s set. This was the “bonus” band, a band I have never seen and quite honestly, didn’t even know existed until I saw them billed as part of Friday’s four-band show.

A Hill To Die Upon  - the bonus band of the night!

I’ve heard this sort of music referred to as metal, death metal, thrash metal… and a host of other descriptive terms. I’m sure my son would set me straight on exactly what makes each one different, and I guess that makes me old…

But here’s the thing. The deep, powerful, high-energy sound these bands produce is something you feel deep in your gut. Each band has its own sound, no doubt, but to me it is all about the power and energy.
Leftwich rocked RIBCO

The band I intended to see Friday night was Leftwich. They have been on my list for a while, but I’ve always been booked when they were playing.  I wasn’t disappointed. I wish I could have seen the other bands scheduled that night, but I had one last stop before I wandered home…

At Brady Street Pub in downtown Davenport, I found The Low Down… with some new faces. There is a new sax player, and I hear they had a couple of singers up too.  I missed that part, but will definitely be looking to catch the band with all of the new additions.

Check my Flickr page soon - I'll be putting up more photos from both bands.
